Martina’s Story

When Martina first came to BUS she was living at a halfway house operated by corrections and had spent years without custody of her children. As she gained confidence through her work with BUS she opened up to accepting further support, allowing us to meet the kind, funny woman we know today.

She became a core member of our renovations crew, developing many new skills on our sites. Outside of work, we supported her in moving to independent housing, regaining custody of her children, and reaching financial stability. We are so proud of what she has accomplished and we know this is only the beginning. Helping our social enterprise crew members to transition into permanent employment is always bittersweet but we are very proud to say that Martina is now employed in the construction sector and she is even volunteering as a Peer Mentor with Summit Youth Outreach.
